things made of felt

has it really been so long since i've posted?

i have made a lot of stuff recently. i'll post them all eventually. first, i decided i really wanted to make stuffies of my friends in animal form. i churned out two before the semester started.

first, the emo skateboarding dragon:

this is a pierced, punk penguin who will soon be wearing a snazzy blazer (complete with elbow patches) once i get around to making it.

legcrafty

okay. so i didn't make it. i didn't even draw it. although i did aid in the design process. in any case, here is my new tattoo, on day II (done this past saturday, august 9).

the real artist is cindy burmeister at Tattoo Faction in North Olmstead, OH. it's a kickass shop. and cindy is super awesome, as you can see.

reworks

i've been hard at work assembling a "line" for a local shop to sell on consignment.
i still don't have quite all she's asking for, but i'm do go in tomorrow anyway. i have 15 pairs of earrings and 8 necklaces.

i don't think i'll have time to document everything i'm taking in...hopefully all the necklaces. but here's one of my newer pieces:

craft: plausible

i decided i really wanted to try sculpting with polymer clay. so i ordered some supplies, which arrived today, and i've been playing all afternoon. i'm going to make...wait for it...a toilet paper holder. of the mythbusters. yes, you read that right. the roll is going to go over Buster, and Adam and Jamie are going to be on either side holding dynamite and a blowtorch, respectively. Vvery ambitious.

anyway, i started jamie's head today. he looks awfully skinny which i'm not too happy with, but obviously making this aluminum foil and wire armature stuff takes some getting used to. anyway...there's still quite a bit to be done. but, i think it's not too shabby for a first time out.

the beret so makes it.

roomcrafty - days 4-?

I've added a bit of detail to the creatures - the octopus has some spots on its head (I feel as though I need more of them or none at all) and some definition to the suckers. The eye is detailed, too.

The stingray has features! The wall behind it is primed, so it blends in with the background. Once I paint the background, you'll be able to see the white bits again.

The shark has a mouth and an eye, plus gill slits. I tried to add stripes, but they looked very odd. Besides, as tiger sharks mature the stripes fade. I need to figure out how to identify it as a tiger shark, though...maybe fainter striping?

roomcrafty day 3

meet the new kid on the block:

painted octopus - first coat of orange, eye primed.

painted tentacles on the other side of the window:

primed shark:

painted ray - still needs black detailing:

painted shark - still needs black and gray detailing:

I really want to start on the wall...but I need at least two rolls of painter's tape before I can start that...yikes! I managed to do the shark and ray without tape, which was nice, but I will definitely need it before I prime/paint the wall. I can't wait to see what the aqua is going to look like. I need to get some black paint for details, I'm torn between just getting some straight up acrylic and mixing it with primer or buying a quart size of black/dark grey at Home Depot (I'm using Behr paints). Maybe they could make me an 8oz sample size? Anyway, I probably won't get to start that stuff until the weekend, I have so much taping to do (and I'm out of tape).

But, it's coming along beautifully and I LOVE it!

room crafty days 1-2

i know when i said i was going to paint giant tentacles on the wall of my new room, people thought i was kidding. well. i wasn't.

yesterday we decided to tackle painting the kitchen, and i did some work on my room. three hours and half a roll of painter's tape later, this is what it looked like:

already looking pretty sweet, eh?

then i painted...these were shot at 1am, so i apologize for the shit lighting.

then, when i realized a) how much fun i was having and b) how much paint i had left, i sketched out the rest of the octopus and started taping (i say started b/c i ran out):

there are two other tentacles on the remaining side walls (these two walls are opposite each other). and i rearranged the suckers on these tentacles a bit, too.

i've put the first coat of paint on the larger part of the octopus, and i also painted the suckers on the first three tentacles. they're very bright, but i like the colors a lot!

i still have to paint the wall(s) aqua, but (late) tonight i decided that i also wanted a shark somewhere on my wall. so, in the corner, i've done a rough sketch of my personal favorite, the tiger shark (same species that adorns my lower back). there's a faint tentacle in the background, that one is not getting painted, it was one of the initial three i drew but then i switched it out for the lower one.

that poor shark is so tiny, it looks like it's going to be eaten by the octopus.
tomorrow's tasks: second coat of paint on the octopus body, primer on the shark (there's a lot of pencil smears) and possibly start to paint the shark.

i also think i need a third thing on that far wall...not necessarily a creature, though. theoretically, a giant octopus would live at a depth where photosynthesizers couldn't really survive (ack, i'm such a geek)...so maybe a pirate's treasure chest or other wreckage? ponderponderponder.

i reject your reality...

Kickass Mythbusters shirt I screened today using contact paper. It didn't work quite as well as I had expected b/c the contact paper wasn't sticking to my shirt very well (I'm guessing it has to do with the ridiculous humidity today). And I messed up the lettering by filling in the B and R with light blue...ooops.
But, anyway, Buster, Adam and Jamie:

and here is the original stencil:

homo sweet homo

yes, it's been awhile. i didn't have much time for crafting at the end of the semester, and then life got a little nutty when i moved/started the new job. but...i'm adding some "homey touches" to the new digs, including personalized bathroom hand towels. here's the first in the series:

his and hers are forthcoming.
